Centre for English Language & Training - Where some of the finest language centres train their teachers

Marisa Constantinides is the Director of Studies of CELT Athens and is responsible for the design and implementation of all the programmes offered by CELT.

Marisa trained as a classical singer but at some point, like many of us, "fell  into" teaching. She has attended numerous workshops and teacher development courses but my main qualifications are  the  RSA Diploma in TEFLA (DTEFLA) and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Reading in the UK.  Her  involvement in Teacher Development Programmes started at the Hellenic American Union where she ran workshops for  colleagues and State School Teachers, then  with Longman Publications running numerous training seminars for them all over Greece.

From 1982 to 1989, she trained teachers  for Mrs.Gina Pagoulatou-Vlachou's school. During that period she also collaborated with  the PALSO Federation, designing and running the first series of organised courses for language schools owners and their teachers in Greece.

From 1989-1993 she ran CELT with partners, training teachers and teaching adults on general and ESP courses,  and as of September 1993, Marisa has been running CELT Athens on her  own, mostly training teachers of English and supporting Diploma in Translation candidates.

Marisa Constantinides has written materials for children (Basic Grammar Workbooks 1, 2, & 3 published by English Schoolbook Publications ), activity books for Cambridge Exams set texts, and numerous articles on Language, Foreign Language Teaching and Education.

Olha Madylus began her teaching career in a secondary state school in the UK teaching English and Drama.  She has a Masters degree in ELT and has been involved in YLELT*  for over 20 years, living, teaching and training in Hong Kong, Venezuela and Greece with the British Council in Thessaloniki where she served as Deputy DIrector.

For the past six years she has been a freelance YL consultant and teacher trainer and is involved in the training of local state and private language school teachers in countries as diverse as Peru, Qatar and Taiwan.  She also does consultation and teacher training for the British Council global teaching network.  She is a Cambridge ESOL CELTA and CELTYL trainer.

She is now (happily) based in Athens and as well as working with CELT, she does teacher training on behalf of Cambridge University Press as well as writing a book for them.

Olha writes regularly for
onestopenglish the Macmillan teachers' website where she is a regular contributor on topics related to teaching young learners and teenagers.

Olha is a tutor on the CELTA, CTEFL, CTEYL, TEYL as well as the DELTA course.

Rosemary Aravanis came to CELT first as a trainee teacher a few years ago. She attended the RSA Cambridge DTEFLA in 1995 (predecessor to the Cambridge DELTA) and completed it with Distinction in the Practical. Rose was born and educated in Australia but is of Greek descent. She moved to Greece in 1993 and has been teaching English as a Foreign Language since.  She is married to George Aravanis and lives in Athens.

breakersRose has had considerable experience as a teacher trainer - which she started some years ago at CELT Athens - and, more recently as a materials writer, writing support materials for Macmillan Publications.

Rose is co-author of
Breakers, a new Macmillan pre-FCE course which was launched in 2007. She is team leader for Cambridge ESOL exams and an IELTS examiner trainer.

Rose is an approved CELTA tutor and since March 2007  she has been
working on full time and part-time courses at CELT. Currently she is involved in training on our CELTA and CTEFL courses.

George Vassilakis' first degree is in Philosophy but he very quickly changed his mind and dedicated himself to EFL. He  first came to CELT as a trainee and attended the RSA Cambridge DOTE in 1989 (also a predecessor to the DELTA) which he completed it with a Distinction in the Methodology.

ActionAContHe worked as a teacher for some years and, after completing his RSA studies, was employed at CELT where her started tutoring on all the courses and very soon on the RSA Diploma course itself. He left to write materials for Heinemann, now Macmillan ELT where he published Action English 1-3 and, later he worked as the Academic Director for the EUROGNOSI school franchise where he worked until recently.

George's main job is with the City & Guilds Examinations orgnisation but he is still very keen on teacher development.

George is an approved CELTA and DELTA course tutor but contirbutes to other courses such as the CTEFL and the English for Teachers course.

Sunny A Angeles was born and raised in Australia, of a German father Japanese mother - with three languages at her fingertips, it was natural that she would develop an interest in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics!

Sunny A Angeles came to CELT to obtain her RSA DTEFLA Diploma in 1989 - she was one of our very first trainee teachers attending that course.

After completing her Diploma with Distinction in the Practical, she went on to further her studies by obtaining two more Masters qualifications. Meanwhile, she started working as a tutor for CELT, first on the Language Awareness for Teachers course, later on the Certificate in TEFL and, finally on the RSA DOTE/DTEFLA, and more recently, the Cambridge DELTA.

Sunny is an approved DELTA Course tutor but she also works as a tutor on the Open University as an Associate Lecturer on the MA in Applied Linguistics, and as a tutor on the IH Distance DELTA. Sunny examines for Cambridge regularly and is an IELTS assessor as well.

Today she trains teachers on the DELTA course at CELT as well as on the English for Teachers course.
