Innovative Courses for Adult Learners

Recommended by
Best Greek Language Courses   Worldwide

OMILEITE ELLINIKA? LEARN IT FAST, LEARN IT WELL, LEARN IT TO COMMUNICATE - FROM ZERO BEGINNER TO ADVANCED USER
The courses are intended for adult learners who wish to develop their language skills to learn to communicate in Greek, not just learn the rules.
The lessons include work on conversational language in social situations (talking to friends, relatives or acquaintances), language used in shop and service situations (e.g. using public transport), as well as language useful for following the media, keeping in touch through books, by phone, via the internet, etc.

Summer 2008

The Approach
Learning any language in the country in which it is used requires an approach that takes the countless opportunities for contact and exposure into account. Learning Greek in Greece should, thus, help learners with their immediate communicative needs and train them to become efficient communicators in order to take on and play the roles they wish within the community. Stale grammar teaching, or rote learning are far from the best course of action, particularly for the adult learner who has no time to wait and needs quick results.

The Tutors
All the tutors are qualified native speakers of Greek. They have specialized in adult foreign language education and have wide and varied experience of teaching Greek and English as a Foreign Language. The members of the tutorial team are also  involved in training teachers and are always abreast of the latest developments in Methods and Techniques appropriate to tutoring and supporting adult groups.

They are all Cambridge Diploma holders with extensive training in the teaching of adults; many hold M.A. qualifications in TEFL, Linguistics or Applied Linguistics.

The Principles and Methodology

The principles which form the basis for the course design and the methodology used are as follows:

The approach should satisfy immediate communicative needs
Language is best learnt through interaction and not through rule memorisation
Authentic materials should be used extensively
The syllabus should be flexible allowing individuals to develop in areas of individual interest and/or concern
The course should include some learner training to keep learning and improving language skills even after the end of the programme
The materials and activities should be motivating and should reflect the adult reality
Oral fluency is one of the major objectives.
Activities which promote oral fluency should be used very frequently
