The Teaching Knowledge Test Preparation Course Now that you have read the information about the TKT, either in the right hand column or on the Cambridge ESOL website itself, you will be aware of the main components of this assessment intended for TEFL teachers. Cambridge ESOL will be launching this examination in Greece around May 2006 but details of TKT examination centres will be announced in early 2006. The short preparation course organised by CELT Athens aims to help you get through the three different examination papers successfully and is organised around the three modules mentioned in the next column:
It should be noted that this course length and content is appropriate for teachers who have already attended a methodology course such as our Certificate Course in TEFL and aims to revise and build on this knowledge with a view to being able to deal with the tasks in TKT. The course is 30 hours and is offered in a variety of modes: part-time or full-time, over one intensive week or even over a number of intensive weekend sessions. Course for TEFL Teachers So, Which course should you choose? This is not an easy decision but you may be helped by downloading the TKT Handbook and sample papers from the Cambridge website and attempting all three parts of the test on your own. The answers (key) can be found at the end of the sample test to help you see which parts of the assessment you can already complete successfully and which you might need further training on. You may also ask for an appointment with the Courses Director at CELT, if you feel that we may be able to help you decide on the best course for you. Please phone or e-mail for an appointment with the Courses Director.

What is TKT?
Who is TKT for?
There are no formal entry requirements. However, anyone wishing to take TKT is strongly advised to have at least an intermediate level of English - level B1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - eg PET, IELTS band score of 4. After taking TKT, teachers who want to develop their knowledge further can progress to Cambridge ESOL's well-established teaching awards, such as ICELT (In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching) and CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults).
What does TKT involve?
TKT has three core modules. These can be taken together in one exam session or separately, in any order, over three sessions. Each module consists of a test of 80 objective questions, lasting 80 minutes, which require you to select the correct answer and mark this on a computerised answer sheet. Module 1 - Language and background to language learning and teaching
Module 2 - Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching
Module 3 - Managing the teaching and learning process
