How the courses are delivered
The content of fully online courses is delivered asynchronously through the Cambridge online platform and all access and study time will be done whenever a candidate has free time. The days and times of interactive sessions may be adjusted to the needs of different groups of trainees in different time zones but they are usually 6-7 hours long, a full morning afternoon or evening. Attendance to these live sessions is required.
During the live Zoom Meetings candidates...
… teach and observe others teach real students
… give and receive feedback about lessons taught or seen
… plan lessons with tutor supervision.
… attend progress tutorials in groups or individually
… attend interactive seminars and workshops
Timetables
Online courses can be followed in part time mode over 10 weeks or in intensive mode over 6 weeks.
10-week course: Live sessions are on one full day a week a.m. or p.m. (for approximately 6-7 hours each time)
6-week course: Live sessions are on two full days a week a.m. or p.m. (for approximately 5 hours each time) for the following.
Here is what a typical day on the course is like (subject to change depending on number of trainees):

Workload
10-week course: This is a great option even if you are teaching although it does require setting time aside for study. We estimate an average of about 10 hours working independently on the course content, plus additional hours lesson planning and assignment writing. The days and times of these live, interactive sessions are adjusted to the needs of different groups of trainees in different time zones.
Candidates must study the course content on the Cambridge platform outside online contact time with tutor and students any time or day of the week they have available; they will be required to cover between 3-5 units every week and complete four short assignments during the course.
6-week course: This is a great option if you are not yet teaching or, if you are, you should choose it if you have a very light teaching schedule. We estimate an average of about 10 hours working independently on the course content, plus additional hours lesson planning and assignment writing. The 6-week course can be quite demanding and it is difficult to follow if you are also working. you will need to set a minimum of about 25 hours per week for attendance, study and lesson planning.
To participate
You will need a reasonably fast connection and a laptop or desktop with a web camera. You will also need a noise-cancelling headset with a microphone (not the one you use for your smartphone). This will allow you to participate and teach with no audio and and video issues. Our online/virtual classroom allows participants audio, video, text chat and screen sharing (standard tools in all live classrooms) as well as other great functionalities, such as dividing students into separate rooms in order to do group work.

Full time courses are usually completed over four weeks, most of them in the summer months. It's suitable for for loca international student-teachers who are able to come and spend at least four weeks in Athens, ideal for anyone who wants to take advantage of our superb location to also have a great break before or after their course!!!
Timetable
Attendance is every day during weekdays (Monday to Friday); it is an all-day attendance course, usually from 09:00 – 17:00. Here is what a typical day on the intensive CELTA is like:

Workload
During the 4 weeks you will be required to attend all day, write 8 lesson plans, teach 8 assessed lessons and write 4 short assignments all related to the content of the syllabus. They are about 1000 words each and focus on Identifying Learner Needs, Grammar & Vocabulary, Reading or Listening and Professional Development after the course.
It is a heavy workload but if you love the fully immersive nature of an intensive course like this, you will reap great benefits!!! Candidates for this option should be free from work obligations and able to commit fully to completing their course.

About the Blended & Mixed Mode CELTA
The blended and mixed mode course options have been introduced as alternatives for those candidates who want to attend online but want to do some or all of their teaching assessments with offline classes. There are two options available and both involve spending from 2-4 weeks in Athens.
1/ Blended mode course - all teaching practices in Athens
The course content is delivered fully online, synchronously* or asynchronously** but the teaching practices are all done face-to-face over a short period (for example over 2 or 3 weeks) or, if the course is part time, over a longer stretch (for example over 8 – 10 weeks). This course delivery mode is ideal for working teachers who are comfortable learning online but want to experience teaching in face-to-face situations as this suits their local working prospects better.
2/ Mixed mode course - half the teaching practices in Athens
This means that the course content is delivered fully online, live (synchronously*) or in self-paced mode (asynchronously** ).
Half the teaching practice lessons (4 in number) are taught face-to-face over a short period (for example over 2 weeks)
The other half are taught online, on Zoom. In this way, candidates experience both types of teaching, offline and online.
N.B. Both course delivery options are usually described as blended or hybrid, but Cambridge has introduced the term mixed mode to describe the two different practice teaching options.

How to get accepted
Many candidates worry that they do not know anything about teaching but they really should not. The CELTA course is a pre-service course intended for teachers who have no teaching experience but even experienced teachers find it extremely useful and rewarding.
Ideally you should:
- have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education
- be aged 18 or over
- have a standard of English which will enable you to teach a range of levels including advanced classes
- You may still be accepted if you do not have formal qualifications at this level but can demonstrate that you would be likely to complete the course successfully.
Your standard of English should be C1 or higher in oder to help you do well on the course as you will be required to teach both higher and lower levels in your teaching assessments.

Both native and non-native speakers are accepted on the course and both are expected to have a level of education, language awareness and competence in English which will enable them to deal with all aspects of the assessment in a successful way.
